the nation’s most promising preachers in the magazine’s “Twenty to Watch” salute to gifted young African American preachers.
The social philosophy of Sean McMillan centers on the psychological, spiritual, and social implications of love. For him, love is more than just an emotional exchange between two people; it is, in
fact, the occasion for everything that we hope for. Love is the necessary condition for the possibility of grace and the aim of human existence as such. Sean McMillan’s message is not simply that we
should love one another, but is rather, a call to hope, social transformation, and existential freedom through the often strange and mysterious transactions of love. In short, love is not about how
we feel; it is about how we live. It is the means by which we come to live for something greater than ourselves and the very substance of a committed life.
